Test Out The New Oven (2009-02-07)
Would I recommend our new Hitachi Steam Oven? Absolutely!I thought my old 8-yr-old Toshiba oven was great, this new one is
fantastic. If you have access to one and are in search of a new
oven, consider Hitachi MRO-DS8 which is affordable and amazing.
Some of its
great features include:
- Heat food according to its weight and temperature; one touch is all it takes to reheat food.
- Can heat frozen and chilled food side by side at the same time (one button).
- Can heat food from frozen state to hot on its own by pressing just one button.
- Can use steam (if desired) to reheat food which helps retain moisture and flavor.
- Cook chicken crispy on the outside and juicy inside using steam, microwave and convection heat.
- Bake bread using steam to make crust crispy.
There're still a lot of features I haven't discovered and tons of
recipes I can't wait to try out, but the first dish I tried was the
pre-programmed roasted chicken legs recipe on the manual.
Although I did deviate from the recipe by placing potatoes underneath
which turned out to be a mistake because the taters were undercooked
and soggy from the fat and juice of the chicken, the chicken was a
raving success! The skin was really crispy and the inside very
very juicy. Thumbs up!
I also found a pre-program making dried fruit which got me all
excited (cause you know how I've been begging KL to buy a food
dehydrator). But it turns out the fruit isn't really dried to a
crisp, it merely becomes limp and semi-dried, like the chewy dried
fruit you see in the stores. *sigh* The fruit, especially
the pineapple, did become sweeter after drying; but the blueberries
were so soggy that I used them to make bagels.
I don't know if it's my imagination or what, but the same chocolate
sponge cake I've been making for years suddenly taste softer and
fluffier in this new oven! (scratches head)
I'm really really happy with our purchase, hope it's as trouble-free
as the old one.
