Growing Choi Sum (2008-01-30)
Once again, my over-zealous gardening heart took over common sense and I grew a summer vegetable in the height of winter. It's amazing the plants didn't freeze to death at all. It took FOREVER for them to reach a pickable height, like thrice the normal time. Seeing they won't grow to be thick and tall, we eat the best-looking ones like baby vegetables. Fortunately they taste sweet and delicious.Choi Sum isn't the only plant I grew, I also sowed seeds for another
type of Chinese vegetable (says "Asian Vegetable" on the packet) and a
Japanese leafy vegetable at the same time. All of them summer
crops and all of them are growing poorly at the moment...
Not to be beaten, I plan a comeback in spring.
