Megane Ichiba (2008-05-07)

I've nagged KL long enough about his 12-year-old glasses that he finally went to get a new pair.  It isn't so much the dated design of the glasses as it is the discomfort it causes him that I wanted him to get new ones.  The old pair was so tight above his ears that its frame always digged a deep grove into both sides of his face.  I don't know why he would endure such pain wearing them the past several years.

The day when we went to Kichijoji (kanji) to look for glasses and what do you know?  A brand new shop just opened the day before.  We tried to avoid the new shop as we figured it'd be full of people, but after finding nothing in the other stores, we had to go check out the new one.  To our surprise, the shop wasn't all that crowded.

The first thing that hit me was the brightness in the shop, followed by tons of bowing courteous suit-wearing staff.  And of course there're images of Bae Yong Joon, known as Yon-sama here throughout the store.  His posters, brochures, and flyers were prominently displayed, and I wonder what percentage of the cost of KL's glasses goes into the pocket of Yon-sama?

There is one significant feature Megane Ichiba offers that other glass shops don't which is their uniform price of 18900Yen (US$180) no matter which frame and which lenses you choose.  You could even pick a frame from their brand name selection including DKNY, and it'll still cost you just 18900Yen.  It's a good thing if you are into designer labels, that sort of thing.
