Hello Work (2008-08-12)
To say Hello Work is a government agency giving out unemployment benefit is not exactly correct. It's more like an insurance company giving payouts to claimants who insure against unemployment.A certain amount of money is arbitrarily taken out of each KL's
paycheck to the government to run Hello Work. When KL was
unemployed in June, he went to Hello Work to claim his
"entitlement".
Because you're not allowed to lodge your claim within seven days after
you lose your job, and it takes time for the numerous paperwork to take
effect, KL got
four weeks' benefit during the six weeks he was unemployed.
There are many restrictions that apply to the eligibility of the
applicants, but the main ones are:
A) Must be employed 12 months prior to losing the job.
B) Must have had contributed payment 6 months out of the aforementioned
12 months.
C) If you resign on your own account, you have to wait 3 months before
lodging a claim.
D) The applicant must make at least two job applications every 28 days
once the Hello Work benefit is approved.
There are tons more restrictions and conditions governing the
applicants, no need for me to expand here.
Oh, as a good gesture, Hello Work is going to pay KL a bonus to
reward his effort of finding a new job in such a short time! If
I'm not mistaken, that's about 30% of the 180 days' payout he could've
claimed. I'll let you know if/when we actually see the money.
