Brasserie Lipp (2010-12-21)
After lunch we went back to L'ile Saint-Louis to try to find Berthillon ice cream again. Since those pictures have already been posted previously, I'll go straight to our early dinner afterward.I first learned about Brasserie Lipp when I watched Nigella Lawson's
cooking show. She had an end scene filmed in that restaurant
which
really stuck in my mind. Then I found out many famous people have
eaten there including Bill Clinton, Harrison Ford and Jacques Chirac
when he was the Mayor.
Like all other restaurants, the waiters are dressed in the black and
white crisp uniform and they all walk around head high and back
straight with an air of pride. The manager and our server
were very professional and very amicable.
The decor of the restaurant is typical French. Waiters
watch their diners' meal progress on the reflection on the mirror of
the wood panel wall so that when a course is finished, the empty plate
is immediately taken away.
The tables are typically closed to each other. In fact, when a
person needs to sit on the wall side, the waiter has to slide the table
out to let them in. We arrived very early (just before 6pm) which
is of course not your average dinner time for Parisians, so we got the
whole dining room to ourselves and the best corner seats.
We ordered one starter-terrine- to share and our waiter was nice to
bring KL a plate without us asking him. It was a bit too salty
but the jelly/aspic was just right.
Since we both got the duck confit (can't get enough of this dish!),
it was presented on a big platter. The sauteed potato slices were
delicious but shockingly the duck, although tender, was not as
flavorful as the one I ate for lunch at L'entracte.
We were quite full after the plat (main) but ordered desert just to
soak in the Lipp ambiance. Both the tarte tatin and sorbet were
mediocre.
