Frog (2004-09-11)
Frog in Japanese is pronounced "Kaeru", almost the same as the word "return" with a slight difference in intonation. As a result some people place a statue of frog at the entrance of their homes to summon the safe return of evey household member at the end of the day. That's a lovely gesture, it reflects the innocence and loving side of a family. But whether there is a frog or not at the entrance, Japanese people
hope for a safe return home by always saying the phrase "Itte
kimasu!"("I'll be back!") when they leave the house. If it were
only
that simple to ensure a loved one's return at the end of the
day, people's lives wouldn't be messed up by terrorists or bad crooks
anymore. And the world would be a much better place to live.
