Panda (2011-03-24)
TV channels here have all gone back to regular
programs, it's time I did the same. So, to return to our trivial
life and petty postings, let's begin with positive news.
Ueno () Zoo finally got a pair of panda to replace the one they lost (Rin Rin) in 2008!
Five-year-old Shen-nyu
(female) and Bi-Ri- (male)
arrived in Tokyo on Feb 21. They finished their quarantine
period not long ago and are getting used to their new habitat before
making their
debut to the public at the end of this month.
Ueno is abuzz with PANDA FEVER! I hope the bazillions
panda-related merchandise and food on the market (and later admission
to Ueno Zoo) brings positive effect to the economy to make the
just-under-US-a-mil-a-year rental fee well worth it.
Update (April 1): The panda pair is now called Ri-Ri- and ShinShin and made their debut on April 1, ten days after the original scheduled date. About 3000 people lined up at the gate before the zoo opened. Earthquake survivors and evacuees have free entry until April 10.
