Buttu Trick-Bar (2005-01-19)

When Rick and his wife were here, the first meal we had together was at Buttu Trick-Bar in Shibuya (kanji).  I was scratching my head looking at the name of the restaurant and wondering what in the world that could mean.  As soon as we stepped out of the elevator onto the seventh floor of the Book 1st Building, I had the feeling of deja vu even though it was my first time there.  The restaurant was dark and loud music was playing in the background.  Huge chandeliers hang from high ceiling and there are several statues of Buddha in glass cases on the wall at the entrance.

After we were seated at our table which was right next to a giant Buddha, I knew why I had the feeling I was in this reataurant before.  Buttu Trick-Bar is a mirror image of Christon Cafe, only it uses Buddhism as its decor theme instead of Christianity.  I suspect the two restaurants are owned by the same person(s).

Despite its outlandish decor to draw customers, the restaurant does serve delicious food.  The dishes we ordered were quite flavorful.  I think even without all the bizarre decoration and gimmicks, it could still attract diners just on the strength of its yummy food.
