Day 6 Returning Home (2005-04-21)
There wasn't much time to do anything on the last day of our trip. We left the hotel around 9:30 am to look for a place to eat breakfast. We decided against taking a train to busy Taipei train station area and opted to stick around the hotel vicinity. We had a western style breakfast at Doutor, a franchised coffee shop also found in Tokyo. The spicy bacon hotdogs we had were yummy, our last meal in Taiwan didn't disappoint us.When we got back to the hotel, we packed a little bit more and went
to the lobby Bar to redeem our welcome drinks coupon at 11 am, talk
about leave things till the last minute! The hotel only gave us a
coupon worth the price of about one drink, so I chose not to have
any. Call me cheap, but there's no point paying $7 for a glass of
coke which I would have to drink in a hurry. KL ordered guava
juice and we stayed in the Bar till 11:35 am. Then we hurried back
to our room and checked out the hotel at 11:50 am.
We waited at the bus stop right in front of the hotel to catch the
12 pm airport bus. The bus was 15 minutes late and it made
several stops picking up more passengers, including local people who
used it as a public bus! A pregnant woman started standing by the
driver quite a long way before her stop, rocking and struggling to keep
her balance, it was a scary sight. (They've got to
change this stand-by-the-door-before-your-stop-or-the-driver-won't-stop
policy, it's ridiculous.) With midday traffic and all, it took
the bus 75 minutes to reach Terminal 2.
We got the best economy class seats ever on the return flight.
They were right next to an exit giving us plenty of leg room but the
unthinkable happened...KL's TV didn't work! The stewardess
offered us another two seats, but it would mean losing the lovely space
to stretch our legs. I think they should give us two seats with
the same leg room, like business class! They didn't of course and
we chose to remain in our seats. KL sulked the whole two hours
and forty-five minutes on the plane.
We passed through customs at Narita Airport around 7:30 pm.
Being so late in the evening, our luggage delivery service couldn't
deliver our bag till the next morning (Sunday). We finally
arrived home at 10:15 pm. It took longer to fly from Taipei to
Tokyo than to go from Narita Airport to our apartment!
Tomorrow we would get our luggage and Monday morning we would pick
up Difoo from the vet's. And KL would go back to work and we
would feel like we never even left Tokyo.
