Japanese-style Nursing Home (2005-12-21)
My friend and I stumbled upon a newly-constructed all-Japanese-style (Junwafu) nursing home recently. It's the most beautiful nursing home I've ever seen. The structure is surrounded by walls along which young bamboo trees grow, occasionally interupted by stone laterns on the ground. The building is several stories high, each floor and the exterior is made of hardwood with Japanese style windows. There is a spacious Japanese garden with pebble pavings, a koi pool and numerous trees and shrubs. The entrance to the nursing home is not particularly grand, just a pair of sparkly clean glass doors that open onto a small foyer decorated with pots of orchids bathed in soft lighting from the ceiling.
A woman was sweeping the area outside the front doors when we were there and invited us to go inside to have a look. She was quite friendly and open to potential customers. We had places to go to so we declined the offer.Even if we were two old bags shopping around for a nursing home
residence, we couldn't have afforded something as ritzy as that nursing
home that requires a US six-figure non-refundable deposit and thousands
of dollars of "rent" every month. Suppose I have that kind of
dough in my golden years, do I want to spend it on a ritzy nursing
home? Absolutely not.
