Doughnut Plant (2007-01-18)
I've read too many good reviews of Doughnut Plant's donuts in New York not to try the one we have in Tokyo. I know it's not the same shop, but the one here does tout using the same ingredients and cooking method as the one in New York, so perhaps its donuts are close enough. So off to the shop in Shinjuku () we went. The variety of donuts for sale is limited. But it doesn't
matter because we only had our eyes on the Valrhona Chocolate
Doughnut. It was only when I ate it that I discovered it wasn't
chocolate all through so I was a bit disappointed. I should've
gotten a chocolate cakey type donut which would've been chocolate glaze
on chocolate donut. Ah well.
My assessment of the donuts are not a fair one since we ate ours
nearly ten hours after we bought them, during which time they were
getting happily hard and stale in the fridge. If we had eaten
them fresh, they might've been light and fluffy (just guessing).
When we ate ours, they felt dense and stodgy.
I'd return if I feel like paying nearly three bucks for a donut
again. But Krispy Kreme just opened their first store on Dec 15,
2006 in Shinjuku too, I have that one to try next.
