Hard Rock Cafe (2007-01-19)

All those times we saw Hard Rock Cafe in our travel, it never once entered my mind to eat there.  Suddenly last weekend I wanted to try that restaurant, so off we went to Ueno (kanji) station where it is located.

The trademark logo of the restaurant is promptly displayed on the entrance and the ubiquitous electric guitars are hard to missed inside.  There are also the typical stools and booths and loud decoration.  We were seated in a very small two-preson table against the wall with a couple of TV screens right behind me blaring rock music non-stop.  The kiddie-size table and the too-close proximity to the tables on either side make for an uncomfortable seating.  We did have a choice of a bigger round table in the middle of the room but I needed stronger lighting over our table to take photos.  I push myself to get good pictures for my readers ye know!

Anyway, a girl wearing a white shirtdress diner-esque uniform soon came to take our order.  There isn't a whole lot of exciting dishes to choose from the menu.  After some deliberation, we decided to share a burger and a sandwich.

The Hickory Bar-B-Que Bacon Cheeseburger came with fries which were crunchy, piping hot and non-greasy, in other words, very good.  Not so good was the patty which was cooked to death resulted in a dry-ish burger.  Inspite of the description in the menu where it says the burger is "basted with our special Hickory Bar-B-Que sauce and smothered with caramelized onions", I tasted very little, if none at all, BBQ sauce flavor.  And I wouldn't use the word "smother" to describe the amount of caramelized onions that was on the meat patty, perhaps just a "light scattering".  There's one major flaw in the burger which is OVER SEASONING.  The burger was so salty I kept drinking water after every couple of bites.  Maybe they replaced our small water glasses with big ones for a reason.

The California Club Sandwich was quite tasty.  The flattened breast meat was again grilled to resemble a piece of dry old plank but still flavorful.  The honey wheat bread in which the fillings were stuffed was super duper soft which is the best part of the sandwich.  The fries were the same quality as those with the burger.

Although I prefer burgers to sandwiches, I'd order this sandwich again if given the choice.  However the restaurant is not trip-worthy.  I don't want to travel an hour for that kind of seating, that kind of food and that kind of blaring music.
