Food In Malaysia (2004-10-30)
Had lunch in this hawker center in Kuah Town in Langkawi
KL had chicken rice there
I had fish ball noodles
Had KFC hot and spicy chicken for lunch one day in Langkawi when we explored the area outside our hotel. We normally wouldn't eat at a western fast food restaurant overseas, but there was nothing else for miles around, so we had no choice. KL felt so stuffed after the greasy chicken he had to skip dinner
Hand washing basins in KFC
The Chinese restaurant recommended by the tour guide
Inside Teo restaurant
The waitress just finished putting a fly cover over some left-over dishes. She's spreading the newspaper over other things too
A stir-fried squid dish, not very tasty. The leaves by the plate is a herb often used by the locals which has a very pungent taste
A local vegetable of Langkawi (first time we saw such vegetable) stir-fried with garlic and chili
Crispy-fried chicken in plum sauce
Spicy crab stir-fried with the pungent herb and chili
The seafood restaurant we went to in Langkawi
Crab in ginger and spring onion sauce
Deep-fried prawns
Noodles in a very thick broth
Hainanese Chicken Rice from room service menu at Sheraton. All this for US 6 bucks. Cheaper than a meal in a restaurant plus taxi fare
Our very first meal in Kuala Lumpur was included in our half-day tour: dim sum in a Chinese Restaurant in Melia Hotel. It's actually quite good
Papaya and watermelon for dessert after the dim sum
Our first dinner in Kuala Lumpur was at this Chopstik Noodle House over Planet Hollywood across our hotel
We ordered a sweet drink made of herbs and dried longan
We shared frog leg congee and their specialty, jumbo prawn noodles, both very delicious
We also had roast duck and steamed chicken. The chicken was bland but the duck was very yummy, worth going back for more
We also had noodles with venison in a thick eggy sauce. The venison tasted just like pork and the noodles were pan-fried till they were fragrant and crispy, this dish was yummy overall
We had lunch at this franchised "fast food" shop in Mid Valley Mega Mall
Our set lunch came with appertizer (Pai Tee) which is a crunchy cup housing a tangy salad, veggie with a spicy topping, fish ball soup and soft drink
The main was choice of chicken (I chose steamed chicken) and BBQ chicken
All this food, including special chicken rice and plain broth, for just US$8. Unbelievable value, and so tasty! The pepsi alone would cost US$2.5 a cup in Tokyo
We had dinner in this restaurant called New Hong Kong Restaurant right outside Sungei Wang Plaza
Our food: Starfruit juice, roast duck rice, boiled vegetable with oyster sauce and braised beef noodle. It's very good
We went back a second time because the first meal was so good. This time we ordered Coke, wanton noodles, roast duck and stir-fried beef with flat rice noodles. The beef was very tough and the dish didn't taste like the one we had in Hong Kong. The wantons was good but not great. We didn't go back the third time. I would've though if we were living in Kuala Lumpur, I'd like to try other dishes on their menu
The hottest laksa I ever ate in a food court in Suria KLCC. I also had freshly made starfruit juice while KL ordered coconut juice
We had New Zealand ice cream in Suria KLCC after lunch
We had lunch at this restaurant, Tai Jin, in Times Square Mall
They served the best tasting chicken we had in Kuala Lumpur. If you ever go there, must try their steamed chicken but you can skip the roast pork, not very good
We ate our last meal in Kuala Lumpur at this hawker center in Bukit Bintang next to Lot 10. I will definitely go back when I go to KL again
We already had satay in Penang in 2002 so we weren't going to eat any this trip to save room for other food. But we never had duck satay, so we ended up ordering a dozen. They tasted no different than chicken or beef, but still very delicious with a yummy peanut sauce.
This local delicacy, grilled stingray, was absolutely delicious. The local lime which tasted like orange brought out the freshness of the fish. It also came with a tasty and spicy dipping sauce. The seafood stall didn't have crabs when we were there, otherwise I would have ordered chili crab too. I suspect it's just as good
We also ordered Bak Kuh Teh at the hawker center. It's a famous local soup made with pork, herbs and garlic
We had a very chocolatey ice cream cone from 7-11 one night. Even the cone is dark chocolate wafer
I bought this snack from a dim sum counter in the supermarket section in Jusco in Mega Mall
We bought mangoes and a mangosteen to eat in our room
The mangoes were tart like lemon, totally inedible. The mangosteen's also somewhat sour, but bearable
More snacks for us. The dragon beard candies weren't as good as those in Hong Kong but still quite yummy. Black forest cake was good, mangoes were somewhat sweet, the other fruits were passable
The café where KL had the last drink before leaving Kuala Lumpur
A staff in the café working on something on one of the tables
KL ordered iced cappucino
I've seen a couple of stands selling McDonald's treats. They have McPopcorn there, interesting
Milo, the chocolate malt drink, is big in Malaysia. It's ubiquitous. Many fast food restaurants, such as KFC in this picture, serve it on their menu
