Thoughts On Taiwan (2005-04-22)

Typical bread in a bakery is very large, but this one sold in a bakery in Core Pacific Shopping Center is ridiculous! Who can finish this?

Flower tea is very popular in Taiwan at the moment. This shop we walked past sells different kinds of dried flower petals to make tea

There are many foreigners teaching English in Taipei earning big money. We walked past several streets together full of ESL schools near Taipei station. This large building near our hotel is also an ESL school

MRT station ticket gates

MRT stations' lower floor is mostly uncovered allowing one to see the tracks and trains from above; that's unusual

One of the many good features of MRT is that there are displays which tell you how much time left before your train arrives, (so you can rush or not rush accordingly). I find that piece of information very useful

MRT tickets. They all have a different design, we have not seen a duplicated design from the numerous times we used the train

The woman in a pink shirt carries a lot of stuff in her scooter, and the lady behind her has a tiny passenger squeezed between her and the dashboard

Flying kites in Dansui

A food item/snack popular in Taiwan and I highly recommend it: beef and pork jerky(left of the photo). They are nothing like the tough dry terrible American one. The Taiwan ones are juicy, fragrant, and seasoned with the right amount of herbs and spices, once you try a piece, you'll end up eating the whole bag. The beef jerky on the upper left corner is from the lady in the hawker center

Our first taxi driver. Notice his beaded seat cover, similar to those used by Hong Kong cabbies

A cute sign put up by the construction company

Sausage hawker doing business from the back of his bike

Steamed dumplings hawker

Famous stinky tofu, chargrill style

Sogo Dept Store's elevator ladies bow even more than those in Japan. These two ladies perform a 45 degree bow to the elevators AFTER they are closed!

Most of the streets we saw were wide like this one

Receipts from a variety of shops and eateries look the same, so weird
