Cafeteria In Tokyo University (2005-12-17)
The cafeteria is under this clock tower
This stairway goes down to the underground cafeteria
The stairs take you to this walkway which leads to the food replicas
A group of high school students was among the customers that day we were there
First you decide what to get for lunch after choosing from the replicas in the display case
Then you go to the appropriate machine to get the ticket for the food you want
Next you go to the kitchen and dining area and present the ticket to the corresponding window in exchange for food. In our case, we went to "#6 Noodle Corner" to get our Chukamen (Chinese noodles)
Kitchen staff hard at work
Chili sauce and powder etc are provided on the kitchen counter for people to put on the noodles. The bowl of mashed potato-like thing is grated raw garlic. One teaspoon of that stuff will render your breath stinky for the rest of the day
The famous Akamonmen (Red Gate Noodles) The thick and spicy meat sauce smothers a generous serving of noodles underneath
Four bowls of Akamonmen being consumed simultaneously (and more to follow)
Most diners are university students and staff
Part of the dining area
Garbage is thrown out in appropriate bins before they are placed on the conveyor belt behind
Diners put their trays of dirty dishes on the conveyor belt which transports them to the washing area in the kitchen
