Carrefour Hypermarket (2005-12-23)
Knowing how crowded Tokyo is and that real estate is at a premium, I didn't think the spacious French hypermarket chain, Carrefour, could find room to open their stores here. Well, they did but not in Tokyo. There are several Carrefour markets in the outskirts of Tokyo and in other prefectures.I've only been to the one in Minami-Machida (
) (
) and it is a very large
store. The aisles are wide, selection of merchandise is huge,
shelves are big and produce is mostly sold by weight instead of
in fixed-priced pre-packaged bags like other Japanese
supermarkets. Some of their employees scoot around in the store
in roller skates, a trademark of Carrefour.
No photographing is allowed in the store, so I don't have any
pictures to show you. Sorry about that.
