Kittens Debut (2006-05-29)
Had a first glimpse of Mama Cat's litter on May 20. There were five of them, all cute as a button! When we saw them, four were up on a ledge looking down at the one who apparently had fallen on the ground and meowing like crazy for its mother. Mama Cat was pacing on the wall nervously while looking at its runaway baby and obviously hadn't a clue as to how she could rescue it.
So far, the lost kitten is still wandering around the tiny courtyard
behind our apartment and occasionally cries for help. I tried to
capture it with the help of the couple living in the first floor
apartment in back so I could put it back on the ledge to join its
siblings. We tried to round it up and ran after it, but it was
just too quick and illusive for us.
Luckily Mama Cat can still go to it and nurse it separately.
I've even seen them sleeping together on the landing of the upper
apartment. I once got as close as four feet from them but the
moment I attempted to go any near them, the kitten sprinted.
There's not much I could do to help it rejoin its siblings, I hope Mama
Cat is smart enough to find a way to lead the kitten back to the rest
of the litter.
