Singapore Day 2-- Vivo City, No Signboard Restaurant (2008-11-30)
For dinner, it had to be CRAB. Can't possibly go to Singapore without eating at least one crab meal.No Signboard Seafood Restaurant is touted by locals as well as the
Singapore Tourism Board. The branch in Vivo City also happens to
be located in the newest and biggest shopping complex in Singapore,
therefore it naturally became our choice of dinner restaurant.
You can choose the kind of crabs you like in the kind of cooking
method you want. At S$40 a kilo of Sri Lankan crabs, it's just a
coupla dollars more than the non air-conditioned coffee shop style
restaurants, but that enables you to dine in a comfortable
air-conditioned room with full service.
I defied popular choice by ordering White Pepper Crab instead of the
famous Chilli Crab. Our dish with one large Sri Lankan crab about
a kilo (2.2 pounds) was really very very cheap when converting to the
pricing in Tokyo. The meat was firm and sweet just like my
favorite mud crab and it was spicy from the peppery sauce.
The venison dish we also ordered was tender and had a slight smoky taste from high heat wok frying. The rice noodle in seafood sauce was good, but not great.
We found some very fresh longan in a supermarket in Vivo at the unbelievable price of S$4 a kilo. (平到喊) So that's what we had for desserts in the hotel.
