Efoo Rules The Kitchen (2009-09-16)
Many people are going to be horrified reading this: our cat has the run of the kitchen.
It's true, Efoo jumps on the counter and into the dish drainer and
up on the shelf and crosses over to the oven and back down into the
sink at will. At just under 4 months when we got him, he was too
short to jump up the kitchen counter, now that he's grown a bit taller
and longer there is just no stopping him.
Critics are gonna say it's unhygenic to let a cat whose paws walk
all over the floor and in the litterbox touch the counter, but I do
wipe down the kitchen surface with a bleach solution frequently.
And I exercise caution when I cook and don't let
food come into direct contact with any surface Efoo's feet can land
on.
All these years this practice has been working well, there's no need to deny a family member who's so keen on keeping me company when I cook or wash up.
