Dinner Amid Fireworks (2004-08-18)
This past Saturday we had a terrific dinner at A Bientot on the 25th floor of Excel Hotel in Shibuya (
). KL made the
reservation six weeks ago to ensure a window seat facing Tokyo Bay
because we wanted to see the fireworks display there that night.
On the way to the restaurant, we saw many young peole in yukata
heading toward Tokyo Bay to watch the show. No fewer than nine
women and a man dressed in colorful yukata surrounded us in our car
alone on the train, it was a pretty sight.Although the fireworks display was a good distance from the
restaurant, it could be well and clearly seen. The show lasted a
full ninety minutes during which time over 20,000 rounds of non-stop
fireworks were shot high up in the air illuminating the dark sky above
the lights of Shibuya. We enjoyed spectacular fireworks
while dining on absolutely scrumptious food. It was one of life's
pleasurable moments.
Also worthy of mentioning is the top-notch service provided by the
staff at the restaurant. It was like every single one of them was
eager to serve only us,
treating us as if we were royalty. When we left the
restaurant, a staff pressed the button for the elevators for us and
held the doors when it arrived. There were half a dozen staff
scattered in front of the elevators, outside the restaurant entrance,
by the cloak room, and behind the cashier; all of them uniformly gave
us a deep bow to see us off into the elevator and we never saw them
lift their heads before the elevator doors closed.
What a meal. It was time and money well spent.
