Our Neighborhood Park (2004-08-19)

There is a stream that runs through the park in our neighborhood.  The paths that flank the shallow brook are nicely paved and can be easily crossed over by various bridges built along the stream.  The footpaths are not wide enough for vehicles to pass through; and since motorbikes are forbidden on them, they provide mile upon mile of excellent cycling paths.  Last Sunday KL had a nice time cycling on them and we also took a long walk along the stream to see where it would lead us.

The stream is much longer than I expected and its entire length spans a few suburbs.  There is no way we can tread along its entirety in a day.  In the two-hour walk (back and forth) we took, we discovered two tennis courts, numerous small parks, a football pitch, a baseball field and a museum.  I can't believe we missed out on all these having lived in our apartment for almost four years.

We also saw a family going from tree to tree looking for cicadas.  The grandfather had a net ready to pounce on any low-lying ones.  He almost caught one but it flew away.  It was fun to watch them.

I just love our park, it's like a hidden gem in busy Tokyo.  It offers many of my favorite recreation for pastime.  I'm glad we hadn't wasted any more time discovering the beauty of it.
