Jumbo Seafood (2015-01-03)

KL raved about a prawn dish he ate at Jumbo with his colleagues, it made me want to eat it.

Arriving on a weekday around 6pm, the restaurant was packed.  Without reservation, we were given a table for 1.5 hours.  At the end, the server came to remind us to turn the table back to them at the two-hour mark, at which point we had just finished eating.  It takes a long time to eat crabs!

Firstly, the prawn dish in herb soup was like Bak Kut Teh with prawns instead of pork ribs.  The prawns were very fresh and crunchy, not a bad dish at all.

Secondly, the chili crab (every table as far as I could see ordered crabs) was kind of a let-down because the dish CAME OUT JUST WARM.  I hate it when food that's supposed to be made-to-order tasted like it was made well in advance.  What's the deal here??  Did they just cook a giant vat of crabs hours beforehand, dish a portion out, pour on some chili sauce and call it Chili Crab??  And it wasn't just our order, our neighbors' chili crabs also looked warm (without steam).

The taste was alright, but for a Sri Lankan crab (1 kg) for S$68,  No Signboard was FAR BETTER last time.  At least they made it fresh for us.
