Jonathan's Coffee & Restaurant (2006-11-29)
Jonathan's is a family restaurant with numerous branches. I've been to a few at different locations. This time I went to the one in Uenohirokouji which is located diagonally across from Matsuzakaya Department Store in Ueno (
). The
restaurant is small with a low ceiling, its decor simple . It is
frequented by salarymen and housewives shopping in Ueno during lunch
time.The menu is fairly predictable with lots of set meals. I like
the menu because it has large clear pictures of the dishes which makes
it very easy to choose what I want. I had the chicken set which
came with either bread or rice. To be on the safe side, I chose
the rice in case they gave me tough French bread.
The chicken arrived fairly quickly served on a hot plate which
wasn't hot at all. The lukewarm piece of thigh meat coated with
teriyaki sauce was tender and quite flavorful. But the star of
the dish was the three small slices of equally lukewarm potatoes.
They
had a smoky taste as if they had been seared in very high heat and
possibly flambeed. They were irresistibly delicious, I just wish
there were more of them.
Jonathan's in Uenohirokouji is open 24 hours which makes it a
convenient place for locals and tourists whenever they want to grab
some decent grub.
