Gia Restaurant (2009-12-22)

Gia is primarily a seafood restaurant just meters away from Cyclo Cafe.  The hostess was extremely helpful and nice and never pressured us to get seafood.  We ordered a couple of appetizers and they were alright.

The star of the night would be mud crabs.  When we enquired about the size and number of crabs we would get for a kilo (2.2lbs), the hostess said about two the size of my hand.  When the plate arrived, there were three on it each bigger than KL's hand!  Well, I love mud crabs, so the more the merrier.

We thought "Crabs in XO Sauce" meant chopped-up crabs stirfried in XO sauce like those in Hong Kong, but Gia's version was whole steamed UNCRACKED crabs topped with some BBQ-tasting sauce.  If you've had mud crabs, you'd understand the thickness and hardness of their claws which is impossible to crack with just a nut cracker.

Fortunately for us and very unfortunately for the young waiter (that looked like a highschool kid) who stood between us for a long time cracking and shelling the claws before placing them on our plates.  His hands must be sore after serving us!  We gave him an extra tip with a biggest note in their currency which is still just 5 bucks and his face was first stunned, then embarrassed, then elated.  He deserved every penny!

Food was ok at Gia, but service can't be beat.

P.S. The business card I got from the restaurant is totally not the one we went to and the website listed on it is for a software company!  But if you can find Cyclo Cafe, you are not far from Gia.
