Crimson Tide, University of Alabama (2005-11-19)
One of the main objectives of us going to Alabama was to visit our school where I got my BS degree and KL got his BS and MS degree. It has been 14 and 16 years since he and I left it respectively. We expected some changes to the school but the extent we saw was mind boggling. The campus seems to have grown in size. Everywhere we turned
there were new buildings. Some old familiar buildings either
changed faces completely or had a new wing added to them.
Our school has become prettier, fuller and more sophisticated, like a
girl all grown up!
The Denny Chimes still stands proudly in the main quad and squirrels
still run around on the lawn. Students were walking and talking
on cell phones, something we didn't see when we were students
there. KL weren't able to locate a couple of teachers he wanted
to see, but he got to talk to one professor in the end, so that kinda
saved the day for him.
Our school is quite famous for its football team. When we were
there, it had a record of 6-0 for the season, that's impressive
indeed. The next match was played after we had left Alabama and
we caught the result on ESPN and we won again, pushing the record to
7-0. What a team!
We saw people selling football tickets at $150 each, that's a far
cry from the 30-buck ones we used to see 15 years ago, which were
considered high back then. There's also a giant stadium being
built when we made our visit. The Alabama team must be bringing
home lots of nice bacon.
We spent over two hours on campus taking pictures and marveling at the new and improved look. I don't know when we will be back, but I am sure it will have grown again next time we see our school.
