Royal Observatory Greenwich (2010-10-28)
Leaving our last stop, we continued our window tour and soon drove toward the Observatory
Nearly there
Walking through a set of gates, we walked along this wide road
The rows of trees on both sides are horse chestnut trees which produce dropped fruits that remind me of a giant tick
Looks very much like chestnut but the guide says they are very bitter and poisonous
and soon past this wall
We got there before they were open. I took this photo of the famous timeline through the gate
A staff cleans it before the horde of tourists waiting to get in
A statue outside the Observatory. I totally missed what the guide said about it
It overlooks this scenery
Close-up
2012 Olympic stadium on the right
Another angle
Quite a few dog walkers in the area (and also a large group of Japanese highschool girls on a study tour)
Lots of people took pictures by this clock outside the building
Not sure if you can read the words
but they explain the clock's importance
When it's opened, we were the first group to enter the small building and walk past this wall
and got up close to this exciting LINE!
I straddled two time zones, haha!
KL straddled Buenos Aires time and Sydney time
Now both on Hong Kong time
At the end of the line, there's this clock which is the Prime Meridian of The World (the jumping red digital numbers becomes just lines in the picture)
